What will your 'Audacious Act' be?

Updated: Oct 17, 2023

So you want to make a career change? You want to find something that will bring you one (or several!) leaps closer to doing work that not only pays the bills, but also puts a smile on your face and spring in your step. There are SO many things you can do to get closer to your dream job, and for today I just want to focus on one particularly low hanging piece of fruit. Please let me introduce you to the month of the 'Audacious Act'! It's not a real thing, it's just something I made up and implement myself regularly. It's often how I get really awesome guests on my podcast. This is how it works...

Being daring when making a career change
Audacious act

Once you have an idea of the sort of work that you think you might find fun (you won't really know until you've tried it), make a list of 30 people who could help to make your career wishes come true. They can be people that you already know, or people you just know of, and could connect with via social media, their agents, friends, family etc. Then start contacting them, one per day, for one month. It's called an audacious act for good reasons...no need to play it safe...be audacious about whom you contact.

  • Whose organisation would you love to work for?

  • Whose brain would you really love to pick?

  • Whose network would you love to be introduced to?

  • Who would you love to collaborate on a project with?

Be specific in the help you'd like to receive. Show gratitude when you receive it. Be respectful of their time and don't take up more of it than necessary. People (generally!) like to help people. Even if only 1 person out of the 30 says 'yes' to helping, you might make really meaningful connections, and who knows where they might lead. As my mum always says 'you don't ask, you don't get. She's a wise woman! Give it a go, see what happens. What have you got to lose? I would love to hear how you get on! Perhaps you'll even get featured in one of my newsletters...or podcasts one of these days.
